National Geographic announces Lisa Thomas promoted to Publisher and Editorial Director of Adult Books

Lisa Thomas, SVP & Editorial Director of National Geographic Adult Books since 2014, has been promoted to Publisher and Editorial Director of Adult Books. Thomas will oversee National Geographic’s award-winning books editorial group, which publishes more than 40 books a year in its core categories of history, science, photography, travel, and illustrated reference. She will report to Susan Goldberg, Editorial Director of National
Geographic Partners
and Editor in Chief of National Geographic magazine, and to Rosa Zeegers, Executive Vice President of Consumer Products and Experiences.

“Lisa is a creative, forward-thinking editor who knows how to get the best out of writers,” said Goldberg. “At the same time, she understands the demands of modern publishing — whether in print or pixel — and is a terrific strategist for National Geographic as we reposition our content for the next generation of readers and users. Lisa Thomas has worked with the books division for 16 years. She has conceived, acquired, and edited a range of New York Times bestsellers, including legendary Forrest Gump author Winston Groom”s The Generals: Patton, MacArthur, Marshall, and the Winning of World War II. She was instrumental in conceiving and editing Dan Buettner’s franchise Blue Zones series. She also published the national bestsellers In the Footsteps of Jesus and National Geographic 125 Years. As SVP & Editorial Director she has overseen the successful publication of recent bestsellers, including No Dream is Too High by Buzz Aldrin, StarTalk by Neil deGrasse Tyson, Destinations of a Lifetime, and many more.
